How to choose a build in Deskrawl

Reference data: 1.0.0i. Steps have not been tested in game.

Choose skills you can use now, then solve the problem stopping the run: groups, a boss, empty mana or a full carriage. Compare the four class routes below before investing in later rune sets.

Start with the skills available at your level

A useful build combines an available basic attack, a strong attack you can sustain and specials that solve the current problem. Match bonuses to the damage type and attack category doing the work. Do not choose a six-piece build before the pieces, Inferno drops and six level-65 rune slots exist.

Situation Choose or check Tradeoff
Groups survive too long An available area attack: Cleave, Seismic Strike, an elemental area spell or a ranged area attack Area coverage does not guarantee better single-target output
One boss stops progress Repeatable single-target damage, healing and the resistance matching that enemy Kill-triggered recovery or damage may stop working
Mana is repeatedly empty Basic mana gain, cost reduction or a cheaper strong attack More damage per cast cannot compensate automatically for long pauses
A full carriage stops collection A working rarity filter and enough capacity Discarding useful upgrade rarities can keep the build weak

Four class build options

Warrior: Valiant Strike and Half Moon Slash form a physical setup at level 20, with Rage Shield for survival. At 35, compare Whirlwind for groups. Thorns is a separate investment in Thorn, its multipliers and surviving direct hits; weapon damage alone does not support this route.

Monk: from level 20, Furious Fist and Piercing Lunge form a physical setup. Add Spirit Twin at 30 and compare Wind Steps at 40 with Spirit Stream when healing is the problem. Hundred Hands later changes basic attacks; its peak stacks and six-piece proc are not permanent early bonuses.

Sorcerer: use the available fire pairing early, or Ice Shards + Ice Meteor after 20 with mana support. Electrocute + Lightning Storm becomes available at 35. Move the element-specific talents and gems when changing direction instead of mixing incompatible bonuses.

Hunter: a physical setup uses Knife Barrage after 30 and Rapid Fire after 35, with mana-cost support. Your character stands still while channeling, so distance and survival matter. Poison and trap support are different branches, not interchangeable physical bonuses.

Use a staged upgrade order

First establish healing and continuous attacks. Next improve the weapon and the main attribute: Strength for Warrior, Intelligence for Sorcerer, Dexterity for Hunter and Monk. Then add matching damage-type and attack-category bonuses. Preserve mitigation and recovery that are needed to remain alive.

Ordinary skill runes are an interim option. Set bonuses activate at two, four and six members of the same set; inspect the equipped count before changing skills around a bonus. A named legendary or missing set piece is not required for every useful starting loadout.

Compare changes on the same map

Run the same map before and after a change, recording completed runs, deaths, healing charges and mana pauses over equal time. Keep a change when the results improve across repeated runs. These build options follow the skill data and its conditions; they have not been ranked in an equal-gear damage or XP test.
