Unlock the current service
In the current 1.0.0i reference data, Henry, the Gem Specialist in Aldenreach, requires level 30 and 20,000 gold. The old recording with a level-35 requirement is not used as the present rule. Other town Gem Specialists also provide the service.
The equipment must require level 30 or above before a socket can be added. That is an equipment requirement separate from unlocking the merchant.
Add a socket before inserting the gem
Take the intended equipment to the Gem Specialist’s socket service. Check the allowed slot, its remaining socket capacity and the displayed cost before confirming. Each socket takes 100 Earth Essence + item level × 400 gold. Use the equipment’s item level, not your character level or the level required to equip it. An item level of 300 means a socket costs 120,000 gold.
| Equipment slot | Maximum sockets | Gem effect group |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | 3 | Weapon |
| Helm | 1 | Armor |
| Chest Armor | 2 | Armor |
| Pants | 2 | Armor |
| Ring | 1 | Accessory |
| Necklace | 1 | Accessory |
Gloves, shoulders, belt, boots and back have no socket in this table. Adding a socket permanently makes the equipment untradable. Then place the chosen gem in an available socket and check the item’s resulting bonus; inserting a gem and creating the socket are separate steps.
Choose the effect for its equipment group
The same gem gives different bonuses in a weapon, armor or accessory. The following are tier-1 values; higher tiers have different numbers.
| Gem | Weapon | Armor | Accessory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amethyst | 10% Arcane damage | 5 Intelligence | 5% Arcane reduction |
| Diamond | 10% Physical damage | 1% cooldown reduction | 4% Physical reduction |
| Emerald | 10% Poison damage | 10 Thorn | 5% Poison reduction |
| Ruby | 10% Fire damage | 5 Strength | 5% Fire reduction |
| Sapphire | 10% Frost damage | 5% maximum health | 5% Frost reduction |
| Topaz | 10% Lightning damage | 5 Dexterity | 5% Lightning reduction |
Match the weapon gem to the actual skill damage type. Select armor and accessory bonuses for the build’s attribute or incoming damage problem, rather than assuming the same color always gives damage everywhere.
Combine gems and plan removal costs
At the Gem Specialist, combine ten gems of the same type and tier into one next-tier gem. Tiers five and six are crafting-only. The ten-to-one ratio means a tier-six gem represents 100,000 tier-one gems before accounting for higher-tier drops or purchases.
Removing a socketed gem costs 10,000 gold and destroys the gem. It is not a free transfer to your next item. Check the specialist’s current prompt before confirming, especially when replacing a high-tier gem.
