Hunter build: physical skills and talent choices

Reference data: 1.0.0i. Talent examples are planner-checked, not gameplay-tested.

Use the physical skills available at your level. Knife Barrage opens at 30 and Rapid Fire at 35; the 31-point talent example needs level 32. Plan mana recovery and a safe channeling distance.

Use the post-buff skills

Steady Shot opens at level 5 and deals 250% base weapon damage as physical damage. Knife Barrage, a physical basic attack, opens at 30; Rapid Fire opens at 35 and spends 70 base mana to channel for two seconds. Until then, keep an available basic attack and Steady Shot instead of planning around locked skills.

For specials, Shockwave opens at 15 and gives knockback and a brief stun, Flare at 25 applies Vulnerable and Dizzy, and Phantom Form at 40 supplies temporary dodge and attack speed. A physical setup at 40 can use Knife Barrage + Rapid Fire, with Flare + Phantom Form; consider Shockwave when enemies closing in are the immediate problem.

Level-32 physical talent example

This level-32 allocation uses 31 points and meets the requirements in the 1.0.0i data planner. It has not been tested for clear speed or survival with the later channeling setup.

Order Add points Total spent
1 Dexterity 5; Attack Speed 5 10
2 Efficient Assault 1; Long Shot 4 15
3 Physical Brutality 5 20
4 Attack Speed 5 more; Dexterity 5 more 30
5 Double Tap 1 31

Efficient Assault reduces strong-attack mana cost. Long Shot requires the enemy to be far away; it is not a permanent bonus against an enemy standing beside you. Double Tap is now a 35% chance for the basic attack to strike twice.

Add the later nodes when their rows open

Sustained Fire opens after 40 spent points and has eight ranks, extending Rapid Fire’s channel by up to 48%. The old six-rank table is obsolete. Deadly Knife Barrage supports Knife Barrage critical chance in that same row. After 50 points, Dazzling Recovery restores mana when casting Blinding Shot abilities, which includes Flare and Shockwave.

Do not treat Mana On Kill as guaranteed recovery against a lone boss. Check mana across several full channels, then choose recovery or a cheaper available attack if the next cast repeatedly fails.

Match physical gear and set prerequisites

Use Dexterity, suitable weapon damage and physical bonuses, preserving health and Life on Hit where needed. Deadeye’s Resolve gives +50% physical damage at two pieces, 25% damage reduction while channeling Rapid Fire at four, and piercing at six. Set drops start on Inferno; six rune slots require level 65. A Rapid Fire or Knife Barrage skill rune is a practical fallback before the set exists.

The i patch changed Violet Skybow from damage against Injured enemies to damage against Distant enemies. The distance condition is greater than six ground units. Do not evaluate it using the old target-health condition.

Know why the setup stalls

Your character stands still while channeling Rapid Fire. If you keep dying when enemies get close, improve distance control and mitigation. Flare’s radius improvement in patch 1.0.0i and the damage buffs in 1.0.0h alone do not establish a class ranking. Compare changes on the same repeatable map.
